Step 1: Microsoft .NET Installation
QMS 12.3 requires two versions of Microsoft.Net to be installed on all servers running QMS components, Microsoft.Net 10.0 and Microsoft.Net 4.8.
Microsoft.NET 10.0 Installation
All servers that will run QMS 12.3 must have the following .NET 10.0 prerequisites installed with a minimum version of 10.0.10:
Microsoft.NET 4.8 Installation
All servers that will run QMS 12.3 must have the .NET 4.8 framework installed. The .NET 4.8 framework can be downloaded and installed from the following link:
The QMS upgrader will not allow you to proceed if you have not first completed this step.
Client System Upgrades
In addition to the QMS servers requiring .NET 4.8, all client systems will also need to be updated for Desktop Agent or RTPDC deployments. Any client systems that are running these components will need to update to .NET 4.8 version prior to upgrading the QMS servers. If the client’s .NET version is updated prior to the 12.3 upgrade on QMS, the auto-update feature on these client systems will pull down the latest 12.3 versions of Desktop Agent. If RTPDC is currently running 7.2 or higher release, then the auto-update feature for that client software will also download and install the latest 12.3 RTPDC client.
However, if the .NET version is not updated properly prior to the 12.3 upgrade, then the auto-upgrade will fail and the Desktop Agent or RTPDC will fail to execute. In this case, the first thing you will notice is that the clients are no longer connecting to the QMS Servers. What happens during the auto-update of the 12.3 client is that the old version is uninstalled and then fails to install the new version because .NET 4.8 is required. You may still find the DesktopAgent.exe or DesktopAgentUpgrade.exe still running in the Task Manager, but these will have failed.
You can verify this is the case by looking in the C:\crtemp\upgradelog.txt file. The log will not be complete and will have stopped with the Executing op of the DesktopAgent.exe. The DesktopAgentService log will also show that the UpgradeThreadProc was started, but it will never finish. If these are occurring, check the .NET version on the system by looking at the registry item:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full\Release
If this DWORD is set to 528040 or higher, then the .NET version is 4.8 or later. If the value is less than that, then you are running a previous version. You can determine the specific version using the following link:
If this has occurred, you will need to kill the DesktopAgent.exe and DesktopAgentUpgrade.exe processes or RTPDC processes and manually reinstall the latest DesktopAgent or RTPDC clients using the installers that come with the 12.3 suite after upgrading the .NET version to 4.8.
