Using the Key Management Tool

Quality Management is supplied along with a Key Management tool, which enables encryption key custodians to:

  • Create an encryption key backup for use in disaster recovery

  • Decrypt encrypted recordings using a key backup. You can decrypt one or more recording files in a folder or all the files in a folder and its sub-folders.

  • Repair the database using a key backup

To use the Key Management tool, complete the following steps.

  1. On the computer running the Enghouse Interactive Data Service, log into the Windows account used by the service.

  2. Locate the tool (KeyManagement.exe) in the Quality Management Suite folder and double-click it.

To create a Key Backup, complete the following steps.

  1. In the Key Management tool, click the Create button.

  2. Use the two Save dialog boxes to name the files into which the two halves of the key are saved.

To restore a database key-set from a Key Backup, complete the following steps.

  1. In the Key Management tool, click the Restore button.

  2. Use the two Open dialog boxes to open the files that contain the two halves of the key backup. The key backup halves are combined, encrypted, and stored to the database.

  3. Restart all Quality Management services so that the restored keys can take effect.

To decrypt using a key backup, complete the following steps.

  1. In the Key Management tool, click either Decrypt File(s) or Decrypt Folder, as appropriate.

  2. In the first dialog box, select the recording file(s) or the folder containing the recording files. Decrypted versions of the files are created in the same folder as the encrypted files, and have the same file name, but with the .ENC extension removed. The original encrypted recording files are unaffected by decryption.

  3. In the second and third dialog boxes, select the key fragment backup files.
