Word Counting Settings

Users with the Change System Settings permission in their Security Profile can edit the word counting settings.

To edit the word counting settings click the navigation icon and then click the General link from the administration sub-menu. The General tab displays. To enable the word counting settings, complete the following fields of the Word Counting Settings section.

  1. Click the Enable Saving Word Counting Data check box.
  2. (Optional) Click the Enable Word Count Limits check box and specify word count limits.
  3. (Optional) By default, a list of exclusion words is provided to prevent counting words that do not have much value in data analysis, such as preposition and conjunction words. The exclusion word list can be customized if required.

To add an exclusion word, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the button above the exclusion word list, a dialog named New Exclusion Word will appear:

  1. Enter the word to be excluded
  2. Select the language of the exclusion word
  3. Click OK to add the exclusion word, the word will appear in the exclusion word list.

To delete an exclusion word, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the button above the exclusion word list, a dialog named Remove Exclusion Word will appear:

  1. Enter the word to be removed from the exclusion list
  2. Select the language of the exclusion word
  3. Click OK to delete the exclusion word, the word will disappear from the exclusion word list.

Alternatively, an exclusion word can be deleted by first entering the word in Search field before clicking on the button.

To import exclusion words from a text file, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the button above the exclusion word list, a dialog named Import Exclusion Words from File will appear:

  1. Choose a text file from the local disk
  2. Select the language of the exclusion words or add a new language if the desired language is not presented.
  3. Click OK to import exclusion words

To export exclusion words to a file, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the button above the exclusion word list, a dialog named Export Exclusion Words from File will appear:

  1. Select the language of exclusion words to be exported.
  2. Click OK to export exclusion words for the selected language, a file will be downloaded to the local disk.

New exclusion word languages can be added if required. To add a new exclusion word language, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the button above the exclusion word list, a dialog named Add Exclusion Word Language will appear:

  1. Select a known language from the drop down or add a new language if the desired language is not presented in the drop down.
  2. Click OK to add the exclusion word language, a new exclusion word list for the selected language will appear.

To remove an exclusion word language, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the button above the exclusion word list, a dialog named Remove Exclusion Word Language will appear:

  1. Select the exclusion word language to be removed
  2. (Optional) Check Remove All Exclusion Words In DB if you want to also remove all the exclusion words for the selected language.
  3. Click OK to delete the selected language.
  1. Click the Save button at the top to save the settings.
